Defective or overloaded electrical installations can cause overheating or short circuits that can lead to fire and operational interruptions. Loose contact (transition resistance) is the most common cause. If such faults are detected early, it can save both property value and human life. Modern thermography equipment is an aid to detecting and eliminating hot areas in electrical equipment and circuits. It is therefore necessary that the equipment is used by qualified personnel who have the necessary training and experience to perform thermography. The standard covers requirements for people (thermographers) who perform thermography of electrical installations to detect and locate possible defects. The competence requirements are designed so that thermography is performed in a professional manner. The standard specifies minimum requirements. This standard applies from 2026-01-01 and replaces the previous edition, SBF 1031:3, which expires on 2026-02-01.
